Disney: Samuel E. Wright, the voice of Sébastien in “The Little Mermaid”, has died

The actor and voice actor died at 74 on May 24 at his home after a three-year battle with prostate cancer.

Actor Samuel E. Wright died on May 24 at his home in Walden (New York) from prostate cancer. His daughter Dee Wright broke the news to US media outlet  The Hollywood Reporter  , saying, “He was the brightest man there was.”

Twice nominated for the Tony Awards, Samuel E. Wright was notably known for having dubbed the crab Sébastien, Ariel’s best friend in Disney’s The Little Mermaid in 1989. The actor started his career a few years earlier in 1971 at Broadway in the musical  Jesus Christ Superstar . In 1997, he played Mufasa in the musical The Lion King , a role for which he was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.

Samuel E. Wright then resumed his role of Sebastian in The Little Mermaid 2 in 2000 and in 2001 in  Disney’s all in a box . He also voiced the Marsupilami in the eponymous cartoon and the Kron dinosaur in the Disney feature Dinosaur .
