In Florida, the final death toll of the collapsed building stands at 98

Police will continue to search the rubble of the Surfside building that was gathered after it was demolished

The latest victim of a building collapse in Florida has been identified, local authorities announced on Monday, July 26, just over a month after the disaster that killed 98 people .

“Thanks to the heroic efforts (of the rescue teams), the last missing person has been located and identified,” said Daniella Levine Cava, mayor of Miami-Dade County, at a press conference.

She said police continued to search for evidence and human remains among tons of rubble evacuated to a warehouse.

The last victim was identified by the police as Estelle Hedaya. According to the latter’s brother, quoted by the New York Times , this 54-year-old woman had just moved to Florida from New York.

If, a month after the disaster, its reasons are still unknown , the first elements of the investigation revealed that the structure of the building seemed in places degraded.
