More than 300,000 Venezuelans could be affected by this “temporary protection status”, a senior American official said on Monday.
United States President Joe Biden has granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to tens of thousands of Venezuelans on American soil, a senior American official announced on Monday, March 8.
This “temporary protection status” protects against expulsion and grants a right to work. This could concern more than 300,000 Venezuelans in total , said the same source. This decision was a campaign promise from the Democratic candidate , who had regretted the attitude of Donald Trump on this issue.
“Venezuelans have no guarantee of safety if they return home,” said the senior official who released the information. Be careful, however, this GST will only apply to persons present in the United States on March 8, 2021 . “If you arrive tomorrow, or after, you will not be able to benefit from it,” he warned.
Joe Biden does not recognize Nicolás Maduro as legitimate president
Despite his opposition to Maduro, Donald Trump has always refused to extend this status to Venezuelans, because of his anti-immigration policy. Like his Republican predecessor, Joe Biden considers opponent Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela and does not recognize Nicolás Maduro as legitimate president.
