After the death of Robert Maraj, father of Nicki Minaj, the fleeing driver arrested

PEOPLE – A man accused of having killed the father of American rapper Nicki Minaj by running over him in a car and then fleeing has been arrested, authorities announced on Wednesday (February 17th).

Charles Polevich, 70, has been charged with “leaving the scene of an accident which resulted in a death and tampering with evidence”, local police said.

Polevich, who has pleaded not guilty, was released after a $ 250,000 bail was paid, his lawyer Michael Scotto reported, interviewed by CNN.

Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, 64, was walking down the street in Mineola, New York’s Long Island , on Friday when he was hit by a car. The driver fled and Maraj was taken to hospital where he died on Saturday.

The 38-year-old New Yorker, born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in the neighborhood of Queens, near where her father was killed, has not yet spoken officially.
